|
A Compliance Plan
is a road map to improving you business activities
with an end result of increasing practice income.
Centers for Medicare/Medicaid Services set-up rules
in the last several years which seem to require
that any healthcare entity billing the federal government
for services, has an oversight activity to prevent
fraudulent billing. While the initial focus of the
Compliance Plan by the Federal government is on
patients paid for under federal programs (Medicare/Medicaid),
it is clear that these rules apply to all patients
and we will discuss all patients in this program.

E
& M Coding Module - 1 Credit |
| |
|
(for all Physicians,
the Compliance Officer and Business office staff
- worth 1 CME credit to Physicians) |
| |
|
This part of the
Compliance Plan is devoted to the review of regulations
for E&M coding and for required documentation.
Improvement here is sure to increase your income
since the evidence strongly suggests more physician
under-code than over-code. The reason for this is
fear of a fraud and abuse investigation for over-coding.

Business
Office Module - 1 Credit |
| |
|
(for all Physicians,
the Compliance Officer and Business office staff
- worth 1 CME credit to Physicians) |
| |
|
As an integral
part of the office you've probably been reading
about compliance plans for some time now. Maybe
you know another practice that has completed its
compliance plan. And now the physicians and manager
have told you that it's your practice's turn. Because
of your role in the business office, you will help
assess the existing reimbursement processes and
policies the practice follows. In other words, you'll
function as an internal consultant, gathering information,
evaluating procedures, and making recommendations
for improvement to the manager. As a result the
compliance plan will be a more streamlined and effective
process, ensuring that both physicians and staff
correctly document, code, and bill for services.

schedule an appointment, check-in and/or check-out,
you have a lot of knowledge about the services they
receive and the billing documents used in their
visit. This module explains the eight areas of the
compliance plan in which you play a major role.
After each area is explained, you will be provided
with specific action steps that, when followed,
ensure that you uphold key components of the practice's
compliance plan.
